Kolkata: A 60-year-old-man was killed in a road accident on Hyde Road in the port area of the city on Friday morning.Police said the victim Gyanendra Tripathi was crossing the road when he was hit by a car. He received severe injuries and declared brought dead when taken to SSKM Hospital. Police have seized the car and are taking necessary steps to arrest the driver of the offending vehicle. Cops came to know after a preliminary investigation that the car was coming at a high speed from Brace Bridge side. They inspected the spot and felt that the driver had applied brakes to stop the car but it was too late and he couldn’t stop the car before hitting the person. Sources said police also came to know that there was a woman passenger in the rear seat of the car. Soon after the accident, both the woman and the driver fled. Police initiated a probe in this connection and trying to find out the driver of the vehicle.
