first_imgThree suspected bandits are now in Police custody after they were intercepted along the Meer Zorgen Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) following a robbery at Canal Number One Polder on Wednesday morning.Some of the items that were in the carThe men were caught by ranks who were at the time conducting a stop and search exercise on the Meer Zorgen Public Road at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB).According to information received, about 03:30h, the men attempted to cross the Harbour Bridge in a yellow wagon, which was stopped and searched.A laptop, ear-pieces, four cellular phones, an Amazon tablet, an assortment of jewellery, a Guyana Passport, local and foreign currencies and other items were found in the vehicle.The car in which the men were nabbed while attempting to cross the DHBThe men were escorted to the La Grange Police Station where moments later, a report was made of a robbery, which occurred at Canal Number One Polder, another West Bank village.The victims visited the Police Station where they positively identified the stolen items.The Police in a release stated that the regular presence of ranks at the western end of the DHB has been very successful, since a number of persons have been arrested and charged with gun and ammunition possession, and other offences.Moreover, the Police maintained that there has been a decrease in serious crimes in the West Demerara-East Bank Essequibo region as a result of the initiative.last_img
