NAGPUR: A civilian was killed by suspected Maoists in Rajnandgoan district of Chhattisgarh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.“Twenty-eight-year-old Pavan Dehari, a resident of Rajkatta village of Rajnandgoan, was shot dead by the Maoists near Baghdongari village under Aundhi police station limits at around midnight on Friday. Pavan Dehari was an innocent villager. He was working as a carpenter in Rajkatta village,” the police said in a statement on Saturday. The police said the killing was an “act of frustration by the Maoists”.Creating terror“He was innocent and killed with the sole purpose of creating terror among common villagers because the security forces are gaining the villagers’ trust in this area. The Maoists’ influence in this area is on the decline, which is why they carried out such a cowardly attack. They have once again proved that their main aim is to kill innocent people,” the police statement added.Dehari was killed in the area where security forces had gunned down three “hardcore” Maoists two months ago in an encounter. In a separate incident, the security forces managed to foil a Maoist ambush in Bijapur district when they detected four improvised explosives devices (IEDs) on Bhopalpatnam-Madded road on Saturday. The IEDs were planted on the route of a road opening party of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the police. But security forces managed to detect and defuse the explosives near Pengadpalli village.
