(Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images)There’s no doubt that Michigan’s botched punt this past Saturday was one of the most poorly timed mistakes in sports in recent memory. But is it the worst play in sports history? According to USA Today’s Mike Foss, it was. Monday, Foss, who writes for For The Win, ranked the 20 worst plays in sports history. Michigan’s blunder was No. 1, ahead of Bill Buckner’s error in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.1. MICHIGAN PUNT.It seems cruel to say this was the worst play in sports history only two days after it went down, but sometimes the truth is a cruel mistress. This is unfathomable, and likely will cost Michigan a shot at the College Football Playoff this year. You’ve probably seen the play by now. If not, here you go:ICYMI: Still haven’t seen the wildest finish, perhaps ever? Here it is! http://t.co/8wVWGMIi7t— Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) October 17, 2015Personally, I have a hard time putting this anywhere near Buckner’s error. Michigan vs. Michigan State, while important, was a regular season college football game. Buckner’s blunder took place in the World Series for a team that hadn’t won it all since 1918. But hey, we’re all allowed opinions – that’s part of what makes sports great.last_img
